the prints and patterns at tracy reese have girlawhirl mesmerized
Sep 10, 2008

Girlawhirl struck gold Sunday at New York Fashion Week, when she was ushered backstage to witness firsthand the preparation behind the Spring 09 Tracy Reece show. Models were having their hair done by the TRESemmé® crew and Mally Roncal was talking about how she chose the pretty spring make up to accompany the clothes…

And the best part was getting to see the clothing up close, because there's nothing that Girlawhirl loves more than a flirty spring dress: and Tracy Reece always delivers in that department. For Spring 09, soft watercolor prints in pastels were popped with vibrant purple, coral, turquoise and beet, all done in feminine florals and even a more casual colorful abstract pattern.

When she finally got to her seat, she had a completely different perspective on the show, having already had a peek at the clothes. The prints appeared a little more subdued under the lights and alternatively appliqués and other shiny finishes really popped. Inspired again by nature, the Spring 2009 Tracy Reece collection was more subtle than last fall's with the aforementioned watercolor and floral prints, soft layers of chiffon and lace, floral appliqués and a soft palette of eggshell white, mauve, light blue and khaki that countered the bright accent colors.

And while there were plenty of pretty party clothes in the collection; including ruched chiffon, a few peplums and some daytime shimmer, Girlawhirl was drawn to the more simple shapes. An easy to wear chemise dress in a subtle, but gorgeous falling leaves print, the layered and long, lightweight body conscious sweaters which allowed chiffon skirts to flow and flip around the models legs as the came down the runway, and a linen wrap coat appliquéd with floral bouquets were among her favorite looks. She loved the green, yellow and gold colors of Reece's garden with flowers print because it was a dead on depiction of the Tuscan countryside, but the jumpsuit in a black version of the falling leaves print was, for her, the star of the show: an easy way to incorporate this trend into her Spring 09 wardrobe.
