five sun and sunscreen sins: even girlawhirl admits to committing a few Jun 29, 2009

While she tries her best to practice safe sun, even Girlawhirl makes a few mistakes when it comes to protecting herself from harmful UVA and UVB exposure. And she's definitely not alone. Recently Neutrogena commissioned a survey to get a grasp on sunscreen habits – and the results were astounding… 1. 60% of Americans never or rarely use sunscreen – but 80% of adults agree that sun exposure can be deadly.
2. More than 70% of adults admit to getting sunburned at least once a year.
3. When they use sunscreen, only 27% of adults use the recommended amount – one ounce.
4. Only 13% of adults use sunscreen daily
5. 51% of American adults have never gone to a dermatologist.
Perhaps these statistics contribute to the fact that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. And a person's risk for Melanoma – its most deadly form – doubles if they've had five or more sunburns throughout their life.
Bring on the sunscreen!
