Girlawhirl doesn't hold back on the compliments. If she thinks someone looks particularly fabulous, she's going to let them know. And since today is National Compliment Day, Girlawhirl intends to be extra liberal with the praise. But she's also made a pact with herself – a National Compliment Day resolution even – to be better at accepting compliments when they're directed towards her… Always the first to dish out the accolades, Girlawhirl admits she's not as good about accepting them herself. For example, if she's told how wonderful her artichoke dip is, Girlawhirl will usually come back with a quip about where she got the recipe, or how it's “so simple to make.”
But deferring compliments isn't only unfair to her, its also ungracious to the compliment giver. In her eZine Articles piece, Compliments – A Gift Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD, Life Coach, Hypnotherapist and author says, “Learning to accept compliments and to admire your talents allows you to feel confident in everything you do.” So Girlawhirl is turning over a new leaf. The next time someone tells her she looks great, or that she's done a good job, she plans to put her chin up, smile and graciously say “thank you,” and best of all, enjoy the praise.
