At least that's what she thought, until she saw a fun little book called ‘CUBEchic' by Kelley L. Moore. The book promises to help “take your office space from drab to fab.” It provides a variety of creative decorating ideas based on inventive themes. From the “safaricube,” featuring exotic tribal masks along the walls, an animal pelt draped over the chair and a faux banana tree, to the “discocube” adorned with shiny silver streamers around the desk, a purple velour chair and, of course, a disco ball suspended above the computer, there is a theme for every personality and whim.
As an admitted workaholic, Girlawhirl's favorite theme is none other than the “zencube,” which channels serenity by incorporating the five natural elements into the work area. Water and earth are represented by a desktop fountain that contains moss. Bamboo outlines the desk to include wood, and candles burn around the computer to embody fire. Metal is incorporated through a decorative wall hanging. Paper lanterns provide the soft lighting necessary for relaxation and a miniature Buddha statute overlooks and beckons a smile from even the most frantic employee.
Some of the fully decorated cubicles featured in the book may be a bit more than Girlawhirl could get away with, but she loves the countless suggestions and intends to use some of the tips to help add pizzazz to her small space.
There is no better way to de-stress during a hectic call than raking it away with the Zen sand garden strategically placed next to her telephone!
