Girlawhirl's wanderlust is fueled by Gary Chang's new book Hotel as Home
Nov 6, 2006

With all her travels, there are certain hotels that feel like home to Girlawhirl. In fact, she's even flipped meetings or re-worked schedules in order to spend an extra night in a favorite place, rather than rushing off to the next city…

In addition to the comfort she feels in certain places, she loves it when she can bring an idea from far away into her home. Whether it's the cavernous chair-ottoman combo from the Sherwood Hotel in Taipei, the Bliss products from a W Hotel, or even the house blend tea from the Peninsula in Hong Kong, there's always a detail or two that Girlawhirl tries to recreate at home.

And Gary Chang appears to agree. In his book Hotel as Home: The Art of Living on the Road, he's found some of the most intriguing—and yet comfortable—hotels in the world. Girlawhirl daydreams as she flips through it, imagining herself in Carla Sozzani's 3 Rooms Hotel in Milan, or kicking herself that she gave up an opportunity the last time she was in Nice to stay at the Hi Hotel, which looks wonderful in Chang's photos.

There's something colorful and fun, or just plain cool in all of the 35 hotels featured in the book. Girlawhirl wonders if she'll get to stay in them all.
