With wedding season on the horizon, Girlawhirl is beginning to brace herself for all of the engagement parties, showers, bachelorette parties, etc. And along with the joy comes the inevitable breakdowns caused by the stress of planning a wedding. Most of the wedding planning clashes Girlawhirl's seen have stemmed from wedding etiquette disagreements. One side says something is acceptable, while the other doesn't, be it bride vs. groom, mother vs. daughter or family vs. family... In an ever changing world, what may have been seen as a faux pas in the past - like the idea of a wedding registry - is completely acceptable today, at least according to wedding etiquette columnist Elise Mac Adam, in her book Something New: Wedding Etiquette for Rule Breakers, Traditionalists, and Everyone In Between.
In her new guide to all things acceptable when it comes to wedding planning, Mac Adam outlines what works, what doesn't and when to say when - along with advice on when to say nothing. Citing commonly practiced wedding day principles as well as ideas unique to a wedding of today, she offers an answer for almost anything imaginable - from how to properly address wedding invitations, to gift giving practices, to how far in the future save-the-date notices should go out, and even answers whether or not black is an acceptable color to wear as a wedding guest. (Yes it is! And these days, even bridesmaids are dressing in black).
