don't forget: the clocks move ahead this weekend!
Mar 7, 2008
Girlawhirl knows her energy level skyrockets in the sunshine. That's why she takes the early darkness of fall and winter particularly hard. Sitting in her office for hours after the sun goes down does nothing for her productivity level. Lately she's noticed more and more daylight with each passing evening. It just makes those last few hours of her work day - when she's just trying to finish things up so she can be on her way home - that much better. So imagine her excitement to learn it's already time to set her clock for spring...

Girlawhirl is ready to "spring ahead" and gain an extra hour of daylight - even if it means giving up a coveted hour of sleep. She's posted notes all around her apartment to make sure she's ready for the change over, because at 2 a.m. this Sunday, March 9th, Daylight Saving Time officially begins.

This is the second year the light of spring has sprung a month earlier than it had in the past. Traditionally, Daylight Saving Time would kick in the first Sunday in April instead of the second Sunday in March as is the new practice under the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The additional weeks of Daylight Saving Time add up to an energy savings for the country. It's been calculated that during Daylight Saving Time energy use as a whole decreased 1% a day - add up the days and that's a big number.

And while the actual spring season won't officially start until the Vernal Equinox on March 20th, it doesn't take any of the joy away from getting an extra hour of sunlight each day. Now she just has to decide how she'll spend it.
