Girlawhirl springs ahead with Daylight Saving Time almost a month early this year Mar 9, 2007

She's said it before, and she'll say it again: Girlawhirl is solar powered! When the sun is shining high, her productivity goes through the roof. Other times she doesn't know why she's lagging and spacing out at her keyboard until she realizes the sun just set. Girlawhirl sees every day the sun stays out a little longer as a gift. And this year the equivalent of her solar “Christmas” is coming early… She knew Daylight Saving Time was due for an overhaul this year, but realizing that it's already here has made her beam from ear to ear. So much so, she doesn't even mind losing an hour of sleep this Saturday night / Sunday morning because it means she'll gain some extra sunlight almost a whole month earlier! Until now, clocks would “spring ahead” at the beginning of April.
Originally created to sync the sun up with the hours we're awake, Daylight Saving Time also proved to be energy saving – the earlier it becomes dark outside the more energy is consumed before everyone goes to sleep. In 2005, Congress voted to extend Daylight Saving Time, effectively letting the sun shine an hour later a month longer each year, and equally effectively, guaranteeing Girlawhirl's sunny disposition sticks around for an extra hour each day.
From now on Daylight Saving Time in the United States will start on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. Stealing an hour of sunlight from the morning and giving it to the evening is quite alright with Girlawhirl.
