• Nike is in charge of the USA's Track and Field Team this year, and they've come up with a mix-n-match Nike Swift System of Dress athletes can customize to fit their needs. Nike says the USATF uniforms feature new Nike Swift materials – that reduce weight for less drag helping them achieve faster times – and Nike Aerographics – a heat and moisture ventilation system. The company claims the new Nike Swift Suit trims .02 of a second in the 100m. The different pieces of the Swift Dress System have different functions. The sleeves cut wind resistance by 19%, and the socks do so by 12.5%.

• The USA Men's and Women's Basketball teams are mixing style and function this year. The uniforms – also a Nike Swift creation, using Nike Sphere and Aerographics – feature a special liberty torch tattoo artist design that doubles as targeted ventilation in the areas the body needs it most. The seams were also moved to the back of the jerseys, cutting down on fabric and making the uniforms more aerodynamic. Nike is outfitting China and Germany's basketball teams too.

• Swimmers looking to reduce drag will be sporting Speedo's new LZR RACER suit. Special panels compress muscles and create a more streamlined body to help swimmers move more fluidly through the water. Created using NASA technology, the seamless LZR RACER suit is ultrasonically welded together. Speedo worked with design house Comme des Garçons to develop the all-American Team USA look featuring traditional red, white and blue.

• But of course Girlawhirl wants to know what's being sported off the field as well. This summer, American athletes will be outfitted by Polo Ralph Lauren for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as for their off-time – a.k.a. village apparel.
