Jeannie Sterling is a thirty-something, late night talk show host in New York City and she is on a mission to bring civility back. Every night on the radio she rails against rudeness, injustice and bad behavior in general. Her show's a hit but her personal life is another story. She blames her insomniac lifestyle for the lack of a man in her life but deep down, she can't help but wonder if there's something about her that makes it impossible for her to find real love.

When her college friend – and longtime crush – decides he's in love with her and they begin dating, Jeannie thinks things are starting to look up. But at the same time, she's dealing with a best friend who's growing more and more distant, her often-absent father, who has shown up at her apartment unannounced (with a dog!) and an attractive, business mogul boss, who buys the radio station after a bizarre run in with Jeannie on the street one night.

Remaining focused on her career, as usual, Jeannie's show takes off and moves to television. But her attempts to increase the ratings finally go too far, and Jeannie is forced to examine her own behavior and figure out exactly what and who in her life is really important to her.
