In theaters this Friday:

Kung Fu Panda—PG—The latest animated feature from DreamWorks, this one has Jack Black as the voice of Po, a slacker Panda who is a huge kung fu fan. When he is chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Po ends up studying alongside his kung fu idols, the “Furious Five” – Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Crane, Mantis, Viper (Lucy Liu) and Monkey (Jackie Chan) – under the guru, Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman). When they are all threatened by the vengeful snow leopard Tai Lung, Po must defend everyone, but is he up to the challenge?

You Don't Mess with the Zohan—PG-13—Adam Sandler stars as Zohan, an Israeli Commando who fakes his own death so he can move to New York City and pursue his dream of becoming a hairstylist.

The Promotion—R—John C. Reilly and Seann William Scott play two mid-level Chicago supermarket employees, Doug and Richard, who compete ruthlessly for a coveted managerial post at a new store location. The pair goes head-to-head in a contest of wits battling towards a hilarious final showdown.

New DVD releases:

• Semi-Pro—Will Ferrell stars in this comedy set in 1976 in the ABA – a faced-paced, wild and crazy basketball league that rivaled the NBA. Ferrell plays Jackie Moon, a one-hit wonder who used the profits from his song “Love Me Sexy” to make his dream of owning a basketball team come true. But his ABA franchise, the Flint Michigan Tropics, is the worst team in the league and in danger of folding when the ABA announces plans to merge with the NBA. Now, if they want to survive, the Tropics must do the seemingly impossible: win.

• Meet the Spartans—From some of the same people who brought us “Epic Movie” and “Scary Movie” comes a spoof of “300.” The heroic Leonidas, armed with only leather underwear and a cape leads a group of 13 Spartans to defend their homeland against the invading Persians, whose ranks include Ghost Rider, Rocky Balboa, the Transformers and even a hunchbacked Paris Hilton.

• Off Season by Anne Rivers Siddons For as long as Lilly can remember she was half of “Cam and Lilly,” a truly in love couple, parents and life partners. After decades of marriage, Lilly's life changes forever when Cam dies. Lilly decides to take a road trip to Maine, back to the spot where they first fell in love and revisited many times over the course of their life together. She takes a good hard look at her past and her life with Cam, trying to figure out where her future should lead. But a shocking revelation makes her rethink everything she's ever thought was true about her life, husband and marriage.

• Plague Ship by Clive Cussler The newest release in the bestselling “Oregon Files” series. From the outside, the Oregon looks like a dilapidated ship but inside it is stocked with the most sophisticated intelligence gathering equipment and weaponry available. Its crew – filled with former military personnel and spies – is up for hire to any agency that can afford it. This time, the Oregon is returning from a covert mission in the Persian Gulf when it comes across a cruise ship adrift at sea. Oregon Captain Juan Cabrillo finds hundreds of bodies covering the ship's decks. He barely escapes with his own life – and the cruise's sole survivor – as a series of explosions are set off. Now, Cabrillo finds himself in the middle of a mystery as big as any he has faced, up against a cult with a lethal plan for the human race that he may already be too late to stop.

• When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris Author David Sedaris brings together his sixth collection of essays sure to leave his fans in stitches. He finds, and shares, the hilarity of amazingly awkward situations of life, like having a lozenge fall from your mouth into the lap of the stranger sleeping in the seat next to you on a plane. He also shares his experiences abroad in France – like covering windows with record albums to keep the songbirds away and looking to a vase of flowers for water to fill the coffee pot with when his water is shut off – and his months spent in Tokyo trying to quit smoking.
