In theaters this Friday: Twilight—PG-13—An action-packed, modern-day love story between a teenage girl and a vampire based on the best-selling book series. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is sent to live with her father in the rainy town of Forks, Washington where she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Culler (Robert Pattinson). He's a boy unlike any Bell has ever met; he's a vampire, but he doesn't have fangs and his family chooses not to drink human blood. To Edward, Bella is what he's waited 90 years for – a soul mate – and soon they are swept up in a passionate romance. But what will they do when a clan of new vampires comes to town and threatens to disrupt their way of life? Bolt—PG—Super-dog Bolt (voiced by John Travolta) lives in a world filled with adventure, danger and intrigue – at least until the cameras stop rolling. He's the star of a hit TV show but when he is accidentally shipped from his Hollywood soundstage to New York City, he begins the biggest adventure of his life, a cross-country trip to get back to his owner and co-star, Penny (voiced by Miley Cyrus). Armed only with the delusion that all of his amazing feats and powers are real and the help of two unlikely traveling companions – a jaded housecat named Mittens and a TV-obsessed hamster named Rhino – Bolt discovers he doesn't need superpowers to be a hero.
New DVD releases:
Tropic Thunder—Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. lead the ensemble cast in this action comedy about a group of self-absorbed actors who set out to make the most expensive war film in history. Skyrocketing costs force the studio to cancel the movie, but the director refuses to stop shooting and he leads his cast into the jungles of Southeast Asia where they encounter real bad guys. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2—Based on the best-selling book series about four young women; Tibby, Carmen, Bridget and Lena are back in this sequel that catches up with them following their first year of college. Having been apart all year, their plans for summer make it even tougher for the girls to stay connected. But when it matters most, they find a way to reach out and share their experiences, and they come to value their friendship more than ever. New Book releases: Cross Country by James Patterson — The murder scene at Alex Cross's oldest friend's home is the worst he has ever seen, leading him to believe he's up against an entirely new breed of killer. He and his girlfriend quickly become embroiled in the deadly Nigerian underworld of Washington D.C. and discover an amazingly organized teen gang led by a powerful African warlord called Tiger. But just as the detectives think they are closing in on Tiger, he vanishes into thin air. Now Alex must follow him to Africa, alone. Dashing Through the Snow by Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark — The fifth holiday mystery from the successful mother/daughter writing duo. The townspeople of Branscombe, New Hampshire are all preparing for the first (and hopefully annual) Festival of Joy. On the eve of the festivities a group of local supermarket employees hit it big in the lottery to the tune of $160 million. Scammers convince one usual player, Duncan, to skip playing with his group this week. After the big win is announced Duncan disappears, but someone purchased a matching winning ticket in the next town over. Could that be Duncan? Amateur sleuths Regan Reilly and Alvirah Meehan show up in town for a “quiet weekend in the country” just in time to get caught up in the big mystery in this little town. Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide To Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy, and Stupid by Dr. Denis Leary — Comedian and Rescue Me star and creator Denis Leary offers up his usual hilariously snarky wit in this social commentary posing as a guide to life, examining what‘s wrong with society today.
