• Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith — Leo Demidov is an idealist, happily working for the State as a courageous MGB officer in Stalin's Soviet Union. It is a time of “paradise,” a perfect existence where no crime is committed, and people are sent to their death for thinking, or speaking, otherwise. A war hero, Leo lives a comfortable life with his beautiful wife in Moscow, and has even been able to provide an apartment for his parents. But then something goes wrong. Leo suspects there is a serial killer on the loose, but no one will address the situation because that would mean the Soviet crime-free paradise isn't actually free of crime. Leo is demoted, denounced by his enemies and exiled from his apartment. In an instant, every one of his beliefs is shattered. His wife is the only one who sticks by his side. Now he must find and stop a criminal the MGB won't admit exists.
• Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet — The only comfort Jane had as a little girl was with her imaginary friend Michael. Her mother, Vivienne Margaux – the very successful head of a New York theater company – certainly didn't have time for her. But at the age of eight her only friend had to leave her. Today Jane, at 30, is living a similar, solitary existence. Despite the success of her first play “Thank Heaven,” her mother still treats her like a slave around the office. And her boyfriend is more interested in what Vivienne can do for his career than in Jane's feelings. Then, she finds Michael again. Except this time he is very handsome, and very real. For the first time in her life Jane is happy, but even Michael can't figure out why they have been brought together again.
• Twenty Wishes by Debbie Macomber — At 38, Anne Marie Roche's life couldn't be any more different than she'd imagined it. While she owns a successful bookstore in Seattle, the recent loss of her husband and the fact that she never had a child leave her feeling empty. For Valentine's Day, she gathers a group of widows together for dinner. They each begin to make a list of twenty wishes. Anne Marie's first wish: to find one good thing about life. Her list also includes learning to knit, helping others, and falling in love again. When Anne Marie decides to help others by volunteering at a local school, she meets 8-year-old Ellen. Their relationship becomes more involved than Anne Marie intended, and way more important than she could have expected. As Ellen helps her work through her list, Anne Marie learns all of her wishes just might come true, just maybe not as she had imagined them.
