In theaters this Friday:

• Smart People—R—Professor Lawrence Wetherhold (Dennis Quaid) is brilliant, but when it comes to love and family, he's as confused as the next guy. His college student son won't confide in him, his teenage daughter (Ellen Page) is an overachiever who seems to be following closely in her dad's misery-loving footsteps. A widower who has seemingly lost passion for everything, Lawrence is sleepwalking through life until his adopted, freeloading brother (Thomas Haden Church) shows up for an extended stay and he encounters his former student Janet (Sarah Jessica Parker).

• Street Kings—R—Keanu Reeves stars as Tom Ludlow, a veteran LAPD cop who is having a hard time coping after the death of his wife. When evidence implicates him in the execution of a fellow officer, he is forced to go up against the cop culture he's been a part of for years, ultimately leading him to question the loyalty of everyone around him. Forest Whitaker, Common and Hugh Laurie also star.

•Prom Night—PG-13—Donna suffered a horrible tragedy but she's finally moved on and is enjoying her last year of high school, and including her senior prom. Surrounded by her friends on what's supposed to the best night of her life, she should be safe from the horrors of her past, but then the night turns deadly. Now Donna and her friends have to find a way to escape an obsessed killer.

New DVD releases:

Lions for Lambs—Directed by Robert Redford, he also leads an all-star cast that includes Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise. Redford plays an idealistic west coast professor who inspires two of his students to try to do something important with their lives, so they join the battle in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, in Washington, a Senator played by Cruise, is about to give a TV journalist, played by Streep, a major story that may affect the fates of the two students on the battlefield.

The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep—A young boy named Angus MacMorrow finds a mysterious object on the beach and takes it home. He soon realizes it's a magical egg and he finds himself raising a mythical water horse. Angus forms a bond with the amazing creature but he also has to keep it secret; a secret that gives birth to a legend.

Resurrecting the Champ—Josh Harnett plays a struggling sports reporter who meets a homeless man, played by Samuel L. Jackson, who calls himself Champ and says he is one-time boxing champion Battling Bob Satterfield. The rumor was that Satterfield is dead, but this could be the story of a lifetime for Erik, just what he needs to get his career off the ground.

The 11th Hour—A new environmentally focused film by Leonardo DiCaprio featuring commentary from Mikhail Gorbachev, Stephen Hawking, former CIA director R. James Woolsey and more. They discuss the pressing issues facing today's world, how human actions impact the Earth's ecosystems, and what can be done to reverse or slow the damage before it is too late.

There Will Be Blood—Daniel Day Lewis in his Academy Award winning performance as a failed silver miner turned trailblazing, and powerful, oil man with murderous ambition.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story—A comedy from Judd Apatow starring John C. Reilly as larger-than-life singer-songwriter Dewey Cox. But behind the music is the up and down and up story of his life – a life that includes three wives, 22 kids, 14 stepkids, a 70s TV show and addictions to every drug known to man. But despite it all, Cox becomes a national icon and wins the heart of a good woman, his backup singer Darlene.

New Book releases:

• Certain Girls by Jennifer WeinerThe sexy, sharp-tongued star of Good in Bed, Cannie, returns. Since the publication of her fictionalized – and super sexual – life story, Cannie has enjoyed the anonymity of writing science fiction under a pen name, and living a quite suburban life with her doctor husband and daughter. As plans for her daughter Joy's bat mitzvah fall into place, all is well in Cannie's world. Then Joy finds a copy of the novel her mother wrote years ago, thinking it is the true story of her conception. On top of that, her husband announces he wants to have another baby. Now the family must reexamine its past, future and happiness.

• Bulls Island by Dorothea Benton FrankIt's been 20 years since high-powered New York City investment bank executive Elizabeth (Betts) McGee has been home to Bulls Island, South Carolina. Betts left after the night her engagement to J.D. Langley – Charleston's favorite son – ended; she thought forever. The match of a snobbish old money Langley and a girl whose family fortune was made with liquor stores and corner markets wasn't looked upon kindly by either family. Now, the most important project of her career puts Betts back in contact with her past, forcing her to face her estranged family, and J.D. himself, in the place she once called home and thought she'd left behind for good.

• Where are you Now? by Mary Higgins ClarkIt's been 10 years since Columbia University senior Charles MacKenzie walked out of his Upper West Side apartment and never looked back. Each year he makes one phone call to his mom, on Mother's Day. Even the death of his father on 9/11 didn't bring him home or break the cycle of his annual call. Now, his sister Carolyn – a 26-year-old lawyer finishing up her clerkship – wants to find him and learn why he's gone into hiding, and tells him so when he calls on Mother's Day. After Mass the next morning, their uncle, Monsignor Devon MacKenzie, finds a note in the collection basket saying “Uncle Devon, tell Carolyn she must not look for me.” This doesn't deter her though, and Carolyn quickly finds herself swept into a dangerous world with more questions than answers as she tries to find the truth about her brother, and the truth about someone close to her who's secret Charles can't allow her to reveal.
