New Book releases: • Smoke Screen by Sandra Brown — Britt Shelley wakes up one morning with no memory of how she ended up in bed with hero detective Jay Burgess – a man responsible for saving many lives in a fire that burned the Charleston police headquarters to the ground – or how he ended up dead next to her. While Jay and a few others saved many lives in that fire five years ago, seven perished. Jay's best friend, firefighter Raley Gannon, was in charge of the fire's investigation. But somehow his career was ruined as the so called heroes exploited their new found fame to further their careers. For five years his resentment has brewed, for his lost career, lost love, and lack of justice for those lost in the fire. But when he hears of Jay's death, and the mounting evidence against Britt, Raley sees it as an opportunity to right the past's wrongs and vindicate himself. But there are some very powerful people who will stop at nothing to keep the truth of the past hidden. As newswoman Britt discovers more about what happened five years ago the pair quickly turns from chasing down the truth, to running for their lives. • Off Season by Anne Rivers Siddons— For as long as Lilly can remember she was half of “Cam and Lilly,” a truly in love couple, parents and life partners. After decades of marriage, Lilly's life changes forever when Cam dies. Lilly decides to take a road trip to Maine, back to the spot where they first fell in love and revisited many times over the course of their life together. She takes a good hard look at her past and her life with Cam, trying to figure out where her future should lead. But a shocking revelation makes her rethink everything she's ever thought was true about her life, husband and marriage. • The Mercedes Coffin by Faye Kellerman — High-powered CEO Genoa Greeves never quite got over the unsolved murder of her favorite teacher, “Dr. Ben.” Shot execution style and then shoved in the trunk of his Mercedes Benz, Bennett Alston Little's murder remains unsolved 15 years later. Then Genoa reads of the eerily similar murder of a music producer. She decides it's time to close her teacher's case – and offers the LAPD quite an incentive to do so. Lieutenant Peter Decker is less than thrilled to open an old case just because a rich woman says so. But he is intrigued by the two cases' similarities. Peter's first step is to talk to the detectives who investigated the Little case. One is willing to speak, the other, Calvin Vitton, is less open, a fact that only fuels Peter's curiosity, especially when Calvin is found dead of a suspicious suicide just 12 hours later.
