Girlawhirl always wants to know what's next. So she searches out what's coming to movie theaters, DVD and CD players and bookstores and shares it with all of her closest Pals. And what kind of friend would she be if she didn't spread the word on her favorite sales too…

In theaters this Friday:

• Norbit—PG-13—Eddie Murphy plays Norbit, a mild-mannered guy who is forced into marriage by a mean and – well – huge woman, played by… Eddie Murphy. But things start to look up for Norbit when his childhood sweetheart moves back to town.

• Hannibal Rising—R—The tale of Hannibal Lecter's formative years. After his parents are killed at the end of World War II and he is forced to live in a Soviet orphanage, Hannibal escapes to France. There he enters medical school where he learns the skills he uses to exact revenge on the war criminals that haunt him and a serial killer is born.

New DVD releases:

Flags of our Fathers— Clint Eastwood directs this movie about the six American troops who raised the flag at the Battle of Iwo Jima in that iconic photo from World War II. Based on the best-selling book.

Flicka— Tim McGraw stars as a rancher grooming his son to take over the family business while his headstrong daughter, Katy, is sent to boarding school. While riding one day, she finds a wild stallion and immediately feels a connection to the animal. She's convinced if her father lets her break the horse she can turn him in to a champion. But her father is less certain. Katy tries to prove she can train the horse and that she's just as capable of taking over the family business as her brother.

Hollywoodland— Ben Affleck plays George Reeves, the actor who played Superman in the 1950s TV show, and apparently killed himself in 1959. Adrien Brody is the detective investigating Reeves' death and the mysteries surrounding it.

Running With Scissors— Based on Augusten Burroughs' best-selling memoir about his dysfunctional adolescence. Annette Bening and Alec Baldwin play Augusten's messed up parents who hand him off to their psychiatrist to raise through his teenage years.

The Grudge 2— Amber Tamblyn plays a young woman afflicted by the same mysterious curse that tormented her sister—Sarah Michelle Gellar, who starred in the first Grudge movie.

The Science of Sleep— A favorite at Sundance last year. Gael Garcia Bernal plays a man who often confuses his dreams with reality, something that complicates his life especially when he decides he wants to go after the girl next door.

• And don't miss all of your favorite TV shows released on DVD this week:

Season 3: Mad About You, Baywatch

     Season 7: Charmed

New CD releases:

• Children Running Through—Patty Griffin—The sixth album from the singer/songwriter; Griffin mixes it up with different sounds from jazz to rock to country on the tracks, one of which is a duet with Emmylou Harris.

Infinity on High—Fall Out Boy—A little more pop sounding than usual for the group, this is the follow-up to their major label debut “From Under the Cork Tree.” But fans won't be disappointed.

•Voila—Belinda CarlisleThis is the first album in more than a decade from the former Go-Go, and it's sung entirely in French! Carlisle pays tribute to classic French songs of the 40s, 50s and 60s on this album. There is also a bonus disc with English versions of four of the songs.

In book stores:

Step on a Crack by James Patterson— The world's most powerful people all fall victim to one man when they become trapped after gathering in New York to mourn the unexpected death of a former first lady. Now, amidst news his wife is very sick and he might have to raise their ten children alone, Detective Michael Bennett must pull it together and find a way to save the world's most famous from the ruthless killer before New York City descends into total chaos.

• High Profile by Robert B. Parker— When the body of controversial talk-show host Walton Weeks is found dangling from a tree in Paradise, Massachusetts, Police Chief Jesse Stone finds himself in the spotlight, and under national scrutiny. Then, the dead body of a young woman is discovered just a few days later, raising the pressure on the small town cop even more. But the most shocking thing to the chief is that no one seems to care about either victim. As Stone starts to delve deeper into the gruesome murders, he quickly learns knowing who to trust may be the difference between life and death.

• Family Tree by Barbara Delinsky— After a less-than-perfect childhood, Dana Clarke can't wait to start her new life, and own family, with her husband – the son of a prominent New England family. But when their first child is born, everyone can't help but notice her African American traits. Dana's husband fears people will think she had an affair and the child is not his. Her only option is to locate the father she never knew and find out her family's history. Dana's search through her past and her husband's heritage turns into a journey of “discovery and secrets rooted in prejudice and fear.”

Natural Born Charmer by Susan Elizabeth Phillips— Quarterback Dean Robillard is the darling son of the NFL, with a successful modeling career to boot. When his life starts to feel out of whack, he hits the road to clear his mind. As he is rolling down a stretch of Colorado highway he sees something that will change his journey… a woman walking along the road in a beaver costume. Blue Bailey is a roving portrait artist on her way to kill her ex, or at least inflict serious harm. Picked up by the attractive sports superstar, the two head off and end up with a summer full of inconvenient sexual tension and a whole cast of characters, including an aging rock star, a woman trying to come to terms with her rock n' roll past, a young boy and an old woman who hates them all.

• Women on the Edge of a Nervous Breakthrough by Isabel Sharpe— The small town of Kettle, Wisconsin gets seriously stirred up when notorious acquitted murderess, Lorelei Taylor returns to her late grandmother's hometown. Stuck in the small town while the media frenzy surrounding her trial dies down, Lorelei can't resist showing off for the neighbors. But not everything is as it seems in this perfect little town, and Lorelei meets some very interesting, and frustrated, housewives in Kettle. Like Sarah Gilchrist, whose perfect garden and home can't make up for her anything-but-perfect marriage. Or Erin Hall who sees hope in the fact Lorelei got away with killing her abusive lover.
