In theaters this Friday:

•In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale—PG-13—After his village is attacked by a band of Krug – a race of animal warriors controlled by an evil wizard – a man called Farmer sets out to find his kidnapped wife and avenge the death of his son. After a daring rescue attempt goes wrong, Farmer joins the royal army in an epic battle and eventually must defeat the royal wizard himself or allow him to take control of the land.

New DVD releases:

• 3:10 to Yuma—Russell Crowe stars as the infamous outlaw Ben Wade. When Ben is captured in a small town, a local rancher named Dan Evans, played by Christian Bale, agrees to deliver him to the nearest town with a railroad station to put him on the 3:10 to Yuma, where he'll stand trial for his crimes. But Ben's gang is on their trail and as the journey turns violent, each man begins to win the other's respect.

• Sunshine—eight astronauts are in a race against time to reignite the Sun's dimming flame before it completely dies and kills the human race.

• Joshua—Joshua (Jacob Kogan) is the oldest child of a wealthy family living in New York City. His intelligence and maturity level are decades beyond his age. The nine-year-old dresses in formalwear and excels at classical piano. When his mother brings home a new baby, Joshua begins to feel alienated and his usually eccentric behavior becomes disturbing. When terrible things begin to happen to family members, it's hard to tell if its mere coincidence or Joshua's doing.

At the same time a televangelist, a Navajo Medicine Man, and a pastor are rallying people to help destroy Isabella before Isabella destroys the earth.

• Plum Lucky by Janet Evanovich—Detective Stephanie Plum returns and this time she's headed to Atlantic City. The mysterious Diesel is back looking for a man with a big sack of money. Except that man has lost the money and Stephanie's grandma has found it. But like any Jersey senior would do, she's hightailed it to Atlantic City in a Winnebago. Now Stephanie's out to bring her back and recover the missing money before something bad happens, but nothing in her life is ever as simple as it sounds.

• The Deportees and Other Stories by Roddy Doyle—a collection of eight stories from different points of view about the immigrant experience in Ireland. All involve someone born in Ireland meeting someone who has come to live there.

• The Senator's Wife by Sue Miller—Meri is a pregnant newlywed coming to terms with her new identity as wife and mother. She's beginning to recognize, with some terror, that there is a big gap between her expectations for, and the reality of, her new life. She and her husband have moved in next door to two-term Senator Tom Naughton and his wife Delia. The senator's chronic infidelity is an open secret in Washington circles. The women's lives parallel each other in dealing with the mysteries of marriage. For one, there are many lessons yet to be learned, for the other, the years of intimacy have created a bond that is still strong despite repeated betrayals.
