In theaters this Friday:

• Georgia Rule—R—Jane Fonda, Felicity Huffman and Lindsay Lohan star as grandmother, mother and daughter in this movie about motherhood and forgiveness. Rachel, played by Lohan, is a rebellious, out of control, teenager, so her mother, played by Huffman, decides to haul her off to her mother's Idaho farm for the summer – even though she swore she'd never go back.

• Delta Farce—PG-13—Three hapless redneck guys, played by Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall and DJ Qualls, are mistaken for Army Reservists and shipped out to Iraq – only they are mistakenly ejected in a humvee somewhere over Mexico. Convinced they're in the Middle East, the guys take up arms to save a rural village.

The Ex—PG-13—Zach Braff plays Tom, a slacker who has to get a real job when his high-powered attorney wife, played by Amanda Peet, has a baby and decides to be a stay-at-home mom. So they move to Ohio where he starts working for his father-in-law's company. But it seems his boss at the company still carries a torch for Tom's wife from their high school days.

28 Weeks Later—R—the followup to 28 days later, this movie picks up six months after the Rage virus has annihilated the British Isles. The army claims the war against the virus has been won and that reconstruction can begin. But the army is wrong – the virus is still alive and more dangerous than ever.

New DVD releases:

Because I Said So— Diane Keaton stars as a meddling but well-meaning mother of three daughters. She doesn't want her youngest, played by Mandy Moore, to make the same mistakes she did, so she decides to set her up with the perfect man – by placing an ad online. Comedy ensues and so, possibly, does love for both mother and daughter.

• Catch and Release— Jennifer Garner plays a woman dealing with the death of her fiancé. After the funeral, she finds comfort in the company of his friends, discovers secrets that he kept from her when he was alive, and finds herself falling for the last person she would have expected.

• Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus—Nicole Kidman stars in this drama based on the life of photographer Diane Arbus. It chronicles the part of Arbus' life when she turned her back on her wealthy family and became immersed in the world of social outcasts that would become the subjects of her photos.

• Music and Lyrics— Hugh Grant plays a washed up 80s pop star who has a chance at a comeback by writing a song for a teen pop sensation. The problem is he hasn't written a song in years and he's never written lyrics. That's where his quirky plant lady, played by Drew Barrymore, comes in. She has a flair for words and they end up working together on the song, and more.

• The Painted Veil—a remake of the 1934 movie starring Greta Garbo, it's based on W. Somerset Maugham's novel set in China in the 1920s. Naomi Watts plays the unhappy wife of a doctor played by Edward Norton. When she falls in love with someone else, her husband takes her along to a remote village in China to fight a cholera epidemic.

In book stores:

• After Dark by Haruki Murakami — Murakami explores Tokyo through the stories of people who live their lives at night. The book intercuts loosely related storylines focusing on fashion model Eri, her academic sister, Mari, and the people Mari comes into contact with over the course of one night, including a jazz trombonist, an abused Chinese prostitute and the manager at a “love hotel.”

• My Latest Grievance by Elinor Lipman—Frederica Hatch has spent her entire life in academia, born and raised at the small women's college where her liberal parents live and teach. Set in 1978, Frederica describers her parents as “annoyingly evenhanded.” When a new dorm mother arrives, Miss Laura Lee French (a wannabe former Rockette), Frederica becomes friends with the glamorous woman, who gives her a dose of exactly what she thought she needed: attention and a stark contrast to her parents!

• The Sixth Target by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro—San Francisco detective Lindsay Boxer is trying to solve the case of her life. Children and their nannies are being kidnapped all over the city, plucked right off the street, but no one is demanding ransom. Trying to beat the clock, and the rising sense of panic in the city, Lindsay must solve the case and juggle a budding romance. All of that and a recent attack has left a member of the Women's Murder Club fighting for her life while the other members fight to keep a madman behind bars. Then just when things start to calm down, a terrifying development leaves Lindsey forced to make a choice she never thought she would face in her life.
