In theaters this Wednesday:
• Enchanted—PG—An evil queen, played by Susan Sarandon, banishes a fairy princess from the past to modern day New York City. Once she's there Princess Giselle meets a handsome lawyer, played by Patrick Dempsey. But can her storybook ideas about romance survive in the real world.
• August Rush—PG—Two young musicians, Lyla and Louis fall in love, but are kept apart by Lyla's father. She ends up pregnant but is told she lost the baby in a car accident when the truth is her father gave him up for adoption. Years later, the child, now a musical prodigy, believes his biological parents want him as much as he wants them and he makes his way to New York to track them down. At the same time his mother finds out he's alive and begins her own search for him, and his father, still haunted by his lost love, returns to the place where they first met.
• This Christmas—PG-13—An all star cast including Mekhi Phifer, Regina King and Chris Brown stars in this holiday family drama. All the siblings in the Whitfield family are home for the holidays for the first time in years. While they're there secrets are revealed and family bonds are tested, but in the end they discover the true meaning of family.
• I'm Not There—R—Six actors, including Christian Bale, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger and Cate Blanchett, portray Bob Dylan to create a portrait of the American music icon.
New DVD releases:
• Hairspray—Plus-sized Tracy Turnblad has just one dream: to appear on “The Corny Collins Show,” the hippest dance party on TV. Despite her pleasantly plump physique and disapproval from her overly protective and equally plus-sized mother – played by John Travolta – Tracy makes it on the show and becomes a sensation. This does not sit well with the show's reigning star and a bitter feud breaks out between the girls when they compete for the “Miss Teenage Hairspray” crown.
• Live Free or Die Hard—Bruce Willis returns as detective John McClane. When a high-tech terrorist organization uses the internet to attack the infrastructure of the United States, it's up to McClane to take down the bad guys the old fashioned way.
• Rescue Dawn—Christian Bale stars in this true story of US fighter pilot Dieter Dengler who was shot down over Laos and captured during the Vietnam War. Dengler was held and tortured for months until he and other POWs managed to escape. Dengler was the only one to survive the attempt. After 23 days on the run in the jungle, he was rescued by a U.S. helicopter.
