Girlawhirl often wonders what it would be like to attend one of the big film festivals, like Tribeca, Cannes or Sundance. And since she doesn't see herself getting a personal invite from Robert Redford anytime soon, she believed herself relegated to daydream and watch the coverage on television. But tomorrow, May 10th, Girlawhirl can take part in a worldwide film festival right at her own computer... Girlawhirl's stocking up on popcorn and calling over friends to gather around the computer and watch the four-hour Pangea Day Film Festival. The live broadcast of the event is designed to bring the entire world together for one day.
The festival features 24 short films selected from more than 2,500 submissions by directors in more than 100 countries. The movies were chosen “based on their ability to inspire, transform, and allow us to see the world through another person's eyes.”
There are actually seven different ways for Girlawhirl and her pals around the world to virtually go to the movies together. Besides catching the excitement on her computer, there are options to see it in person at a live broadcast station in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro, or attend a Friends of Pangea event being held in cities and towns around the globe.
Girlawhirl can't wait to settle in at her computer tomorrow for quality films and see the view from someone else's perspective.
