Michael Kors blended prep with attitude and came up with giant rugby stripes to start his show. As the show progressed, the clean stripes became tie dyed, which Girlawhirl thought made them unbelievably cool. Belts were big as well, something Girlawhirl is seeing everywhere, but the news here was that they were low on the hip, thus negating the waist-is-moving-up vibe that's been happening all week. A mix of autumnal browns and camel ruled the runway, with navy, grey, and a few pops of burgundy and yellow for an Ivy League feeling. Black and cream were together again, but this time in a graphic, oversized plaid, which was contrasted by a second plaid, more compact and tonal in shades of brown.
Since the Marc Jacobs show Monday night, and the Marc show Tuesday afternoon, the fashion flock is talking up a storm. But what Girlawhirl finds interesting is that while all the chatter is about Marc Jacobs and his ability to consistently re-invent his collections season after season, not very many people seem to be talking about the clothes themselves! Girlawhirl is not sure how the full long pants showed at Marc will look on her, but she intends to give them a try when they hit the stores in the fall. There were a few other pieces that she hopes to integrate into her look, like a very proper looking dress that will definitely wow the crowd when Girlawhirl has to give presentations at work. And she loved a graphic tee, in the perfect blue for fall with a fun Asian cartoon-like print. Bags are always key at Marc, but Girlawhirl's got to get one of the belts with the small pouch attached.
At DKNY it was lots of brown, popped with bright yellow and blue, which Girlawhirl thought was fun. It wasn't the first time bright blue was shown, so she thinks that it might be the ‘it' accent color for this fall. Proportions varied here, the shortest shorts so far, and even a few shrug-like sweaters layered on top of the requisite floaty blouse. But there are always a few chunky cable sweaters and sweater coats at DKNY, and Girlawhirl was happy to see these as well. Girlawhirl's must have? A loden toggle coat with ¾ length sleeves.
