Moody and dramatic at Ports 1961

Always dramatic and sometimes even theatrical, Girlawhirl loves the way Tia Cibani draws from a different theme or country for every collection. For Fall 08 it was Scotland with its legends and mysteries that inspired her collection…

Fabrics were both feminine in their lightness and rustic in feel: tweeds, wool gauze, velvets and plaids in clean but relaxed silhouettes accented with belts, strong shoulders, wraps – often in faux fur – and hats. And Cibani added some techno touches as well, with rubber corsets and metallic lamés.

Coats layered over dresses or skinny pants made Girlawhirl think that getting dressed in the morning should be so easy. Tweed and wool dresses looked pretty with their slim silhouettes and belted waists. Full draped bottoms on skirts, cowl backed dresses, and the aforementioned rubber corsets added drama, but the easy-to-wear belted A-line sheath dresses kept everything down to earth. The skinny cigarette pants were perfectly proportioned under pea-coat like jackets or topped by longer, fuller pieces.

In keeping with the moody Scottish theme, colors were muted, indigo blues, which were used in both solids and a plaid, greens, golden yellow, red and plenty of neutrals shades of grey and taupe. Gorgeous sweaters, often knit with giant horizontal cables made Girlawhirl think of getting cozy in front of a fire. A feather-like print was so subtly pretty – in neutral colors – and a perfect way to bring the feeling of nature to the pieces it was made up in.
