Stain Removal from The laundress
Girlawhirl finds a way to keep her summer whites sparkling.
Jun 8, 2006

Girlawhirl admits to having a fixation with all things related to laundry. Stain removal is paramount, ironing is part of her regular (translation: daily) routine, and she's been known to turn perfectly good white T's that seemed just a little on the yellow side into dust rags or donations…

Her whitening and brightening routine of extra bleach combined with an extra rinse, seems to do the trick on the 100% cotton items like T's and kitchen towels, but when spandex is involved and chlorine bleach is out of the question, she's more often than not, disappointed with the results. But following a special ‘recipe' from The Laundress, she's happy to report that all her white T's, tanks and denims, even the stretchy ones, will be sparkling this summer.

Here's how the process works:

• For specific stain removal, she first saturates the areas with (what else?) Stain Solution. Recommended for the whole underarm area, this product gets a head start on the dingy yellowness created by her antiperspirant and works wonders on other types of stains.

• After a bit of a rub-in (gentle if the fabric is delicate), Girlawhirl soaks her items in hot water. The laundresses themselves suggest boiling the water, but even for Girlawhirl that's going a bit too far.

• Items can soak for as long as necessary, even overnight is ok, but Girlawhirl soaks for about an hour, and then proceeds to the washer.

• There, with the use of The Laundress Whites Detergent, which contains a safe-for-spandex bleach alternative and optical brighteners, all signs of yellowness, dinginess, (and even a stubborn chocolate ice cream stain) were removed in the wash.

With results like that, Girlawhirl can't wait to give other special detergents like Wool and Cashmere Shampoo and Swimwear Care a try.
