The Tracy Reese Tango
FashionWireDaily - Tom Julian

Fashion freedom and business success (especially with the opening of her first NYC signature boutique) allowed designer Tracy Reese to kick up her dance heels as she presented her spring collection on Sunday, September 10th. The Reese spirit came down the runway literally with a stylized couple that did the tango and introduced the audience to show themes that were stacked like a dance card: the Tango, Samba and Barrio.

The Tango group swayed in a black sheer seersucker, while the designer added a delicate tie back at the neck on one, an open scoop neck on another and an empire shape to the third. Reese also introduced prints in this group. But where did all that Tracy sparkle and ornamentation go this season?

"The prints were my graphic theme and came from amazing paintings," Reese told FWD. "I saw this abstract floral painting. I wanted to go more graphic and more rhythmic. Not so light and floral, but more gutsy."

Her gutsy attitude prevailed as she played with tucked twill for outerwear, shaped leather for a jacket and jodhpur, dolman sleeves on jackets, shirts and coats, ruching on bustiers and coats, and embroidery on skirts. There were some gutsy color hues too - berry, cocoa, mustard, curry, to name a few.

Reese still gave her fashion fans what they like - dainty decorated tulle skirts with a sequin overlay and a slightly beaded empire bubble dress and a jeweled shell. And Reese will keep them coming back for more with her exclusive collection of handbags and footwear (that the designer said is "now at retail store near you").

Saks Fifth Avenue's VP Michael Fink felt this runway show was definitely "all about the dresses." He simply described them "as gorgeous" and liked that the designer was a "little less tricky" by staying away from ornamentation, focusing more on shape. The lady-like dress range was endless and there were definitely a few favs - the pique cuffed strapless dress, the pique tulip slip, the poplin shirtdress and the final number called a "Spyro Gyra" asymmetric frock.

Actress Lisa Edelstein of "House" simply summed up the Reese attitude: "Her clothes are girly, sophisticated and playful. They fit really well…and you can wear them during the day and at out at night!"
