Girlawhirl had heard that it was coming. But it's been months since she read the report that the manufacturer of Lycra had come up with a way to dye it black, thus eliminating the shine that seems to show up whenever her tights, leggings and tops are stretched…
Yes, it's true, there's now a black version of Lycra® available to mills that make stretchy fabrics. Perfect for when the fabric itself will be dyed black because what causes the shine is the fact that the Lycra currently used is a clear color. While the black Lycra itself has been in the works for a little over a year. It takes that long for clothes made from the new fiber to hit the stores.

Girlawhirl's first glimpse of a garment made from black Lycra couldn't have been a more perfect way to try it out: in leggings. Girlawhirl has several pairs of leggings and one of the things she dislikes about the look is the shine that seems to go up and down her legs because, let's face it, the fabric is definitely being stretched. Athleta's Finesse Leggings are made with the black Lycra so there's no shine when they stretch over her calves or thighs.
