Chaiken shines with satin for daytime

Always a fan of Chaiken's smart and sassy sportswear, Girlawhirl was chomping at the bit to see how designer Jeff Mahshie would interpret the trends that are shaping up for spring 07…

And one of the major highlights of the show was the way they incorporated satin – and shine – into daywear. This is something that Girlawhirl's seen in other shows, but the Chaiken team took it one step further by using strong and shining colors like chartreuse, coral and pure bright red, worn mixed with dark brown.

The wide leg pant was fabulous here too. Because it was in a soft, drapey fabric, the volume wasn't overwhelming and it resulted in a slouchy look that could have been like a pant stolen from a man's closet. Girlawhirl loved the belts in this show as well: simple brown leather with military style buckles, or fabric that matched the outfit with D-rings. And there were even belts with handbags attached; an accessory that Girlawhirl feels is completely under-rated.

Cool dip dyed effects created gorgeous contrasting colors, white bleeding into black or bright cobalt blue fading into sandy brown. Beautiful brown ombre stripes on silk chiffon made up a long dress that Girlawhirl would love to wear.

But her favorite piece of the collection had to be the chunky cotton sweater cape. With a collar and a single button showing at the top, and offered in white or dark brown, she knows it will be one of her key pieces for spring.

This collection had it all... gorgeous color, all white looks, great accessories and fun trapeze shapes.
