Girlawhirl admits to having a bit of high-low-designer-collaboration fatigue these days. When they were first introduced they were fabulous, but now, after a couple of years of continuous hype that's not always backed up by the product, it takes far more than a long line and a well known name to get her excited to see what a high-end designer can do with the more humble fabrics she and her Super Pals usually turn up in. But today it's totally different – the Gap has launched their latest Design Editions collection in which designers honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the Vogue Fashion Fund work their creative magic on iconic American items... For the past two years designers worked on white shirts – and Girlawhirl still wears a few of the fabulous variations that she purchased. But this year, in a bit of a change-up, khakis are the featured item. Designers Albertus Swanepoel, Alexander Wang and the duo behind Vena Cava, Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, put their own sensibility and spin on classic khaki fabric and Girlawhirl can't wait to get her hands on what they came up with.
Cool hats, great cuffed pleated shorts, a couple of printed dress options and broken-in khaki “jeans” are all part of the collection that will be in major Gap stores around the world and online at gap.com starting today.
