Kate Moss has signed a deal with Britain's biggest high street fashion retailer Topshop to create a fashion collection bearing her own name.

“We wanted to work with Kate because she has style and she has taste. I think everyone knows this and I think most people think it's a smart idea,” Topshop's owner Phillip Green told FWD on Wednesday.

The Moss collection will be launched next spring, and Green stressed it would not be a one-off affair, but an ongoing collection.

The partnership represents the latest step in the remarkable rehabilitation of the 32-year-old supermodel, who was axed from several high profile ad campaigns last year, after a UK tabloid showed photos allegedly capturing taking cocaine.

The collection will be named Kate Moss for Topshop and is expected to be retailed in most of the chain's network of some 300 stores.

“Kate is going to work with our design team and creative people and we will see what comes up. I think it will be very interesting,” Green said shortly before the beginning of the Christopher Kane runway show in Holland Park.

Green, UK fashion's most dynamic fashion entrepreneur, has created a rival show space to the official British Fashion Council's tents beside the Natural History Museum and is very bullish about the deal with Kate.

“I have no interest in a one-off arrangement,” he added, in a clear reference to the giant Swedish fashion retailer H&M, which has inked one-off deals in with Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney.

According to well-informed sources, Moss had actually agreed on a one-time deal with H&M before the publication of the drug imagery, at which point the Swedish retailer got cold feet and pulled out of the arrangement.

“Anyone can throw a few hundred pieces with a famous [name] into a store in High Street Kensington and sell out quickly,” he insisted.

“I have no idea what Kate will do, or what the collection will look like. But I firmly believe that the consumer won't be fooled. They are the true test of whether fashion works,” added Green.
