With Sixties tunes ringing in her ears, Girlawhirl left the Malo show full of ideas about how to be hip for Spring 07. And with lots of trapeze shaped mini dresses and super cool platform heels, it looks like the Malo design team has the answer… Using a tight color palette of black, flat grey and a creamy white, and accenting it with raspberry, purple and a few touches of red, green and ochre, the collection looked sleek and modern. The handbags and shoes were stellar in shiny patent leather. Platform sandals, either solid or color blocked were perfect compliments to the clothes. Oversized patent leather handbags in trapezoid shapes, some embellished with circular stones, were real stand-outs, and Girlawhirl believes they'll rival whatever the ‘it' bag of spring 07 turns out to be.
The patent leather theme extended to the jackets and trenches in the collection where cotton was somehow treated with a shiny coating. And Malo, a company know for it's cashmere sweaters, showed several chunky ones, trimmed with metallic and again, patent leather.
Girlawhirl liked the satin shorts in the collection, inspired by the shape of athletic shorts with curves at the side seams. And the idea was also applied to a mini skirt, again with the curves on the sides. While most of the collection featured minis, shorts and plenty of bare leg, there were also skinny, black stretch cotton pants.
Girlawhirl loved the vibe, the music and the way the clothes, styled by Vogue's Camilla Nickerson, looked as they came down the runway at Malo.
