Girlawhirl started thinking about her spring wardrobe the minute New York Fashion Week kicked off last September. And now, with her holiday bills paid off, she can start formulating a plan to get the looks, outfits and pieces she needs for spring into her closet. And while she's sure she'll be adding to the list, her spring shopping starts with these beauties…

First and foremost, Girlawhirl can't wait to get into her white jeans. It's the quintessential summer look, and this season, it's being touted from high to low. With a flirty silky print top she'll be a hit at parties. With a black – or even better for this summer – a saturated colored T shirt she can travel in both style and comfort and on casual Friday, she's a super star with snappy heels and an ethnic patterned blouse. To be prepared for all occasions, she's looking at a few options right now. Hello! Skinny Jeans in white (which she won't be able to order until April) as her ‘to the ground' boot leg option and a slim ankle version from Boden. She's also got her eye on the Matchstick Jeans from JCrew; the fact that they're skinny all the way down the leg will allow her to pair them with all kinds of billowing and voluminous tops.

Girlawhirl's pant of choice for the office will definitely be high waisted. And while she's sure she'll end up with at least one version that pays homage to the true sailor pants that came down the runway, for now she's just mimicking the silhouette with Banana Republic's Harrison Lightweight Wool Trouser. With their higher waist and fuller leg, she looks polished and professional when she's paired them with a slim belted cardigan that hits at the hips. As for the true sailor pant, Tracey Reece's version in pinstriped navy is just what she's after, but they're a budget buster, so she'll probably end up with JCrew's stretch chino version.

Next up for Girlawhirl is office-appropriate safari, because she certainly doesn't want to look as if she's headed off into the bush instead of a meeting. The trim belted shift dress from Michael Kors is her inspiration, but the version he made for his Michael by Michael Kors line is so much more wallet-friendly. This pretty skirt from Elie Tahari gives her a more feminine alternative with its scalloped eyelet bottom adorned with grommets. And with a wide belt, the right shoes and a cardigan thrown over her shoulders, this scooped tank dress from Organic can take her to a meeting in style.

Pencil skirts are a key component of Girlawhirl's work wardrobe, and just as they did on the runways, the skirts she's seeing in the stores these days now have higher waistlines. It's a great way to create – or enhance curves – so she'll definitely include a couple in her spring purchases. Basic and beautiful, this slim one from Kenneth Cole Reaction has just enough stretch to fit like a glove. In organic cotton, and perfectly shaped, she loves the high waistband on this khaki skirt from Organic. But her heart goes to the Lafayette 148 stretch wool version in navy. She knows she'll be reaching for it again and again. And for plus sizes, INC has the perfect black basic, at a great price.

Spring runways were awash with flowers and floral prints, often done up in A-line skirts. Girlawhirl's found a few that she knows she'll get plenty of wear out of. For these she turns to her favorite place for fun skirts: bodenusa.com. This sophisticated floral can get her through a crazy day at the office and dinner with clients in style. For more fun, there's the Swishy Jersey Skirt that's comfortable and lightweight, but when paired with coordinating tops from the rest of the collection adds up to a travel worthy outfit that goes straight from the airport to a meeting.

Girlawhirl's just getting started with her spring shopping. There's more to come: dresses, tops, shoes and accessories!
