With the leaves just starting to fall in some parts of the country, and temperatures unseasonably warm, Girlawhirl's barely into her fall wardrobe, and she's just started thinking about what she'll be wearing to all the holiday parties soon to fill her calendar. But even if her closet isn't ready, now truly is the best time to spend a few minutes to start thinking spring. With the Spring 08 collections just off the runways in New York, London, Milan, Paris and Los Angeles, Girlawhirl has a few weeks to keep her eye on things and take note of what trends she'll be looking forward to wearing next year… Black and white – or cream – are perennial favorites and so easy to wear, so Girlawhirl's sure she'll be incorporating these spectator looks into her closet. What also makes black and white much more than basic next spring are pretty graphic prints, whether the geometrics at Oscar de la Renta and Balenciaga, graphics at Temperley London and Christian Dior, or oversized florals at Michael Kors and Gucci. Grey and other neutral colors like all kinds of khaki, sand, mushroom and taupe are a perfect way to wear the softer colors spring brings and they layer together – another theme she spotted on runways – brilliantly.
Bright pretty colors are always something Girlawhirl looks forward to wearing when the weather's warm, but for Spring 08, she'll also have the option of eggplant, midnight blue, brown and other jewel tones often reserved for fall. Because there are so many collections that feature ethnic and abstract prints and patterns, these richer colors are now part of the spring palette. There are still plenty of pretty colored florals, another sign that spring has sprung, along with dots, color blocking, and ombre colorations – where one color fades right into another.
The lady-like looks Girlawhirl is wearing these days will continue for Spring, but she'll soften them a bit, maybe by pairing a flowing knee length printed skirt with a khaki safari inspired jacket for the office. The sheath dress is still her best bet for a meeting or power lunch. Wide leg pants look fresh for spring with sailor button details, and for casual days she'll have cropped pant options – which she saw at Gucci, Prada and Chanel – as well. Since it's spring after all, Girlawhirl knows she'll be showing lots of leg: shorts, knee grazing skirts and dresses were all over the runways.
By the time she hits the store, the runways will be a distant memory, so Girlawhirl will be sure to print out her ‘shopping cheat sheet' to take along with her. To print yours, click here.
