Word up to those screen goddesses headed to the upcoming Oscar red carpet, the fall 2008 Versace collection has got the very best looks for your lovely selves...
In a classy, yet punchy, display staged in Versace’s custom-built theater in south Milan late Thursday night, Donatella finished with a sensational series of silky columns that would send paparazzi into a piranha-like feeding frenzy on Sunday in Los Angeles.
Made in classic Versace hues of darkened pink, night time ultra violet and golden beige, the figure hugging columns with open backs and rippling fronts were all sensational, climaxing a thoroughly professional and polished catwalk show.
Also striking were a foursome of handkerchief hem cocktails with collage imagery of Berlin art scenes, artwork projected on to giant screens throughout the show.
Plus, the collection broke new ground with some engaging monocolor cocktails with patchwork straps, bodices and hems. Why any stylist would not grab the whole collection illudes us, for these were clothes with panache and class.
Adding to the good time feel were dusty purple mink clutches and some great spiked platforms with pink under soles.
The hot show summed the happier moment at Versace, which recently announced stiff sales increases, confirming that the house's turnaround is more than healthy. Moreover, in a morose week in Milan when parties were practically non-existent, it was great, and very welcome, of Donatella to stage a rip roaring dance party in the family’s via Gesu apartment. Powered on by party tigress DJs, fashion’s beautiful and the bountiful burned down the dance floor until the wee hours.
Like it or not this is the new red carpet chic.
