Truth be told, if she drops off the package anywhere today – FedEx®, UPS® or the Post Office, she'll pay a little extra for two day delivery, but she can go to sleep tonight knowing that her package will get there on the 24th.
If she can't make it before everything closes tonight, then tomorrow, the 23rd, she'll just have to pay a bit more (more than the cost of the gift inside the box!) to ensure overnight delivery.
It's the 24th when things get really dicey. Overnight Delivery just won't do it for packages that must arrive on the 25th… but it becomes a weighing game of dollars, sense and the reality of the situation. Both UPS and FedEx offer solutions, Express Critical and SameDay® respectively – but the cost is astronomical. Options for a 2 pound package that needed to go about 300 miles came back with quotes well into the hundreds and even more than one thousand dollars on one of their websites.
It's the Postal Service that can sometimes save the day. As it turns out, a package that's processed for Express Mail (overnight delivery) services on the 24th might just make it to its destination on the 25th. It all depends on how the package is being routed and where it's going. There's a chance that in a major city where the package can easily get to the addressee, it will be delivered on the 25th. But if it's going a far distance, it really isn't an option. Girlawhirl's suggestion: don't be afraid to ask at the Post Office, because it's really a local decision as to whether or not the package can be delivered.
