With just a few days before Holiday D-Day, Girlawhirl's spending the weekend double checking her list - and filling in any holes she finds along the way. She has no desire to visit the mall, so she's looking for some last minute gifts that she can find in less crowded locations…

Her first stop is the fanciest gourmet grocery she can find, where there's a treasure trove of goodies inside. She can start in the chocolate aisle, creating a cache that includes bars from various chocolatiers, an organic hot cocoa mix, some freshly baked shortbread and even a bottle of fresh from the farm milk for a friend who's favorite indulgence is a cup of hot chocolate.

Cheeses with special jams, olives or relishes make easy to pull together gifts, and here Girlawhirl can go with a theme, like Italian cheeses paired with an eggplant relish and breadsticks. She can go over the top with a chunk of Parmigiano Reggiano paired with truffle honey or a small bottle of aged or flavored balsamic vinegar for a very special gift, or down low with a combination of jacked up jalapeno cheeses, salsas and chips.

The Health Food Store is another place where Girlawhirl can find all kinds of eco-friendly and green gifts. A friend who loves the tropics would be thrilled with a basket of organic pineapples, persimmons, kiwis and more. Organic English Breakfast and Earl Grey Tea, paired with scones from the organic bakery are perfect for a tea drinker. A cook who's never tried organic spices could find that she loves them. Plus, there's usually a whole section of non-food items like books, mugs, cool utensils and other items that can be included or given as a gift on their own. And Girlawhirl can't forget the beauty aisle! She's come to love so many of these products and a shower gel, scrub, moisturizer combination is a great way to introduce others to them.

For drinkers on her list, the liquor store is another place to stop for a last minute gift. Champagne is everyone's first choice, and while Girlawhirl tries to stay away from the obvious, she admits that it's not a bad idea. She goes with something with a little personality though, like a pretty pink rose champagne if she's giving it to a woman. And to go with a bottle of bubbly, a jar of Wild Hibiscus Flowers packed in syrup (stocked at most Whole Foods stores) makes for a pretty and tasty champagne cocktail.
Coffee lovers might like to try Starbucks liqueurs while vodka drinkers are sure to appreciate a fun new flavor, or even the latest and greatest, black vodka, to add to their at-home bar. And of course there's always wine.

If Girlawhirl has the strength, she might do a very quick mall run, just because the beauty section of a department store, or Sephora, gives her so many beauty options that she can select from and get out quickly. If this is the way she decides to go, she'll be sure to get there either in the morning just after they open or in the evening right before they close. Crowds will be thinner then.
