With Mother's Day not too far away, Girlawhirl's decided to slow down for a few minutes and check out some gift options for her mother that require a little bit of time now, in order for them to be ready when the big day rolls around. She's pulled together a few ideas to discuss with her sisters this week. Once they narrow it down, they'll each take a portion of the project to execute... • Girlawhirl's already a fan of the Taste Book Personal Cookbook option she found on epicurious.com, and it's still a great option for Mother's Day. She and her sisters can round up some family favorites, including older recipes that their Grandmother prepared when their mom was little. They can stop right there and compile them into their very own family cook book, or spend a little time in the kitchen coming up with low fat and otherwise healthier versions of their family favorites. • Instead of a cookbook, a special calendar might be just the right gift this year. At lulu.com, Girlawhirl and her sisters can customize everything, from the month they'll start with and dates they choose to highlight and to the images – or collages of images – they'll use for each month. They can even add captions for each image.
• To highlight a collection of special photos, Girlawhirl plans to suggest these Personalizable Silver-Plated Frames from redenvelope.com. There are two sizes, for 3” x 5” or 4” x 6” photos, and each frame can be engraved with up to four lines of 25 characters. The engraving takes just three extra days, so this idea might be a back up in case they don't get any of the other projects finished in time!

• Alternatively, they can each contribute photos to create this layered collage. Nine magnetic frames of slightly different heights stick to the white lacquered steel backboard, allowing Girlawhirl and her sisters to move things around until they get it just right.

• But perhaps the best gift of all is something they can all create together. Bringing along a Genealogy Tree to their Mother's Day get-together means that they can spend some time with their mother, filling out and mounting the leaves, and hearing stories of their grandparents, aunts and uncles from her.
