Today is America Recycles Day, and Girlawhirl, her Super Pals and co-workers are taking just a few minutes to make sure they're all doing their part. Are the bins in the break room being used properly? Is the magazine sharing system she employs with her Pals functioning without a break down or accumulation of issues in one person's apartment? What else can they do to make sure everything that can be recycled is? Girlawhirl's got a quick checklist that she's running through… At home: • does she have separate bins for garbage, mixed paper, newspapers, bottles and cans? • does she know her pick up schedule and how everything needs to be wrapped to ensure it all gets taken away? • does she keep a separate jar for non-rechargeable batteries? Those really shouldn't go in the trash.
At the office: • are she and her co-workers disposing of all recyclable paper in the right bin? What about take-out lunch containers? Is there a place to put those that can be recycled? • are they thinking twice before printing something they don't really need a hardcopy of? • are there more water coolers around? That means fewer small water bottles! • does her company have a plan for recycling cell phones and computers? • do she and her officemates use washable plates, cups and silverware instead of disposable items whenever possible? • does she give her scrap paper a second life by turning it into notepads?
With her friends: • how's the magazine sharing going? • when they exchange gifts are they careful not to overdo it on the wrapping? • do they share recycling tasks, collecting everyone's batteries and taking turns dropping them off? • are they sure to recycle at every single Super Pal gathering?
Girlawhirl knows she slips up every now and then, but she tries her best to incorporate recycling into every day.
