Girlawhirl's felt the winds of change in the business community. In years past, the word green stood for cash, profits or money. These days it has come to mean all kinds of things that are gentle on Mother Earth. And just as Girlawhirl's greened her apartment – with a personal recycling program, biodegradable and non-toxic cleaners and more – she's thrilled to see that some of her favorite businesses are getting a little greener as well…
• Vosges Haut-Chocolat, already a favorite for its inventive flavor combinations and over the top chocolate creations, has just received approval as an organic manufacturing facility. They've switched to organic butter, sugar, nuts and cream as well.
The company has a green mission that includes not just recycling office paper and ink cartridges but also switching from styrofoam packing materials to air-filled bags, and using white sun shades to protect the chocolate to cut down on cooling needs and more. Even the pretty purple boxes that Girlawhirl loves to receive are made from 100% recycled paperboard.

• Beauty Blankets' colorful soft blankets and loungewear are now even softer on the environment because they've found a dyer in Italy who uses all natural herbs to color wool and cashmere. Their cotton blankets are made with organic cotton, but what's even cooler is that they're also using undyed merino wool and cashmere, which ranges from a very light ecru color to medium mocha and even dark brown. Since the yarn isn't dyed it's unbelievably soft.
In addition to all that, the merino yarn they use meets the Global Organic Textile Standard, which means that it can all be traced back to the farm that it comes from in Australia, and of course it's renewable and biodegradable. And as far as the cashmere goes, it's harvested with a traditional combing method that's cruelty free and supports the local Mongolian culture.

• At the suggestion of one of their newest faces, Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann, Lancome gets a little bit greener by neutralizing the carbon emissions created by the travel of its spokesmodels. It's partnered with Carbonfund.org, an organization that enables individuals or
organizations to go CarbonFree™ by making investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation projects. With help from Carbonfund.org, the four Lancome Boutiques in the United States were able to operate carbon neutral on Earth Day 2007. And it's currently selling a limited T Shirt designed with Rag & Bone that proclaims the wearer's carbon free status. All the proceeds go to Carbonfund.org.
