eco friendly beach gear keeps girlawhirl sun safe and green
Jul 3, 2008

With the holiday weekend upon her, Girlawhirl's packing her bags and heading for a sunny weekend with friends. And she's bringing along all kinds of beach gear, designed to be clean and green, and keep her – and Mother Nature – in top form all weekend…

It all starts with an organic cotton blanket to lay out on the sand. Girlawhirl's planning on wearing a bathing suit from Rogan for Target, the latest Go International® collection. Even though it's not made from organic cotton, the beach towel – in a cool black and white animal print – from his collection is.

To protect herself from the sun's damaging rays, Girlawhirl's got an arsenal in her tote. First and foremost, she needs a physical sunblock to protect her face and body from both UVA and UVB rays; the water resistant Dr. Hauschka Sunscreen Cream SPF 20 will do the trick. Her lips get special attention, with Bare Escentuals Lip Guard SPF 15, which uses a natural mineral sunscreen that also blocks both UVA and UVB rays. She can harness the heat from the sun to create a hot oil treatment for her tresses: all she needs is Weleda Rosemary Hair Oil. By the time she shampoos it out at the end of the day her hair will be soft and shiny. She'll top herself off with a little extra sun protection in the form of Patagonia's Airius Bucket Hat. It's made from recycled polyester and designed to keep air circulating – so she stays cool – while the brim shades her face and neck.

She's got a lot to carry, when she throws in her book, water bottle (refillable, of course!) and sunglasses, but there's plenty of room in her new market tote made from recycled plastic.
