Sure there are designers and clothing lines that adhere to sustainable principles. But in an effort to get more of them on the bandwagon, Earth Pledge is once again sponsoring FutureFashion, a show that will feature 29 designers, each with looks that features eco-friendly and non polluting fabrics...

Whether it's organic cotton, bamboo, corn-based or recycled fibers, Girlawhirl can't wait to see what Diane Von Furstenberg, Stella McCartney, Jil Sander, Marni, Donna Karan, Michael Kors and more send down the runway.

It's all to draw attention to just how the fashion industry impacts the environment. Considering all the pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers used to grow it, cotton –  fashion's most popular fabric –  is one of the most chemically contaminated crops. It's been calculated that it takes 1/3 of a pound of chemicals to make just one cotton t-shirt! Add to that heavy metal dyes and chemicals used in finishing fabrics made from all kinds of fibers, and the fashion industry ranks right up there with others that pollute the earth.

The designers included in this show may not follow sustainable principles in every outfit that graces their own runways, but by sending something sustainable down the FutureFashion one they'll take a step towards highlighting fabric options and production practices that might just eventually be adopted industry-wide. The invitation sums it up beautifully: "It's not about this season. It's about every season."
