‘planet chill: sustainable travel trips' from lonely planet and ben and jerry's, help girlawhirl with eco-friendly travel tips
Sep 27, 2006

Girlawhirl is always on the lookout for ways to lessen her impact on Mother Earth. So far she's come across a number of great ways to do so, like going “zero” with Gaiam by planting a tree. But now she wants to lessen the impact of her traveling, and she's found one delicious way to do it…

Lonely Planet—her go-to resource for travel books, REI, and two of her favorite friends, Ben & Jerry, have teamed up to help educate travelers about exploring the world in a responsible way. From now until October 5th, savvy travelers can stop by any Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop, Borders, REI store or shop online at Lonely Planet to get a free copy of “Planet Chill: Sustainable Travel Tips.” The 12-page “mini-guide” outlines how concerned globe-trekkers, like Girlawhirl, can circumnavigate the globe while doing the least damage to the world's ecosystems as possible. The guide has tips on sustainable travel, volunteering and eco-tourism opportunities, and how to offset her carbon emissions.

If she can't make it to a Scoop Shop by October 5th, which she seriously hopes is not the case, Girlawhirl can download a copy of the pamphlet from the Ben & Jerry's website. Bonus: she can enter to win an Alaskan eco-adventure for two on the same page (yeah!!). She also found links to calculate the carbon emissions of her last trip across the Atlantic. She was then able to purchase “offsets” to support renewable energy resources—ultimately offsetting the damage her journey did to the environment.

Girlawhirl's so excited about her new guide, she's spreading the word. She's also printed a few copies of “Planet Chill” to make sure she always has one on hand, and a few extras to pass out just for good measure. Tomorrow all of her traveling co-workers will have a lovely mini-guide in their inboxes!

Girlawhirl visited Ben & Jerry's online to download her version of “Planet Chill: Sustainable Travel Tips.” She also bought her offsets online through their website.
