Girlawhirl dreams of building an eco-friendly house some day. She can see it now, with its solar panels gleaming from the roof. But for now, she's an apartment dweller, albeit one who finds as many ways to keep it as green as she can… Maybe when she's ready to head out of the city, and build her eco-dream house, solar panels and other means of capturing nature's resources will be an integral part of the building codes… or she might just be able to run down to her local Ikea store and pick up what she needs.
In Sweden, where Ikea is based, they sell prefab houses and just last year these houses were introduced in the UK. Girlawhirl wonders… could solar kits be the next step?

Ikea has operated a GreenTech fund for a while, and the fund is getting ready to start investing in companies where it sees the potential for commercial use of the ideas or products those companies are developing. That means that it will invest with the hope of eventually selling the products – possibly energy meters, solar panels and more – in Ikea stores.
