Two years ago, 300 restaurants in New York City participated in the first Tap Project during World Water Week, asking diners to donate $1 for the tap water that was brought to their table. Now more than 2300 restaurants nationwide are part of what promises to be a bigger and better Tap Project. All dollars collected will go to UNICEF, which will provide clean water to children around the world… Girlawhirl loves the idea because, honestly, $1 is a rather painless donation when she's already in the mindset of paying for dinner in a restaurant. And if she or the Super Pal she's dining with feels particularly generous, the amount can be increased when they pay the bill.
The single dollar donation provides clean water to a child who otherwise might not have it for 40 days, which is truly a lifesaver. Waterborne illnesses are the second largest cause of death in children under the age of five. UNICEF works in more than 90 countries, providing clean drinking water, sanitation facilities and more, with the goal of zero preventable deaths.
There are plenty of restaurants in Girlawhirl's neighborhood that are participating. Find one in your area that's part of the Tap Project here.
