When Girlawhirl cleans out her closest, she makes sure to donate everything she can. Save for some completely un-wearable pieces – like her way-too-torn jeans – everything goes to the donation bin. But the next time Girlawhirl attacks her closets, she's going to set aside those tattered denim pieces, save them from the dumpster and give them new life as something totally unexpected: sustainable home insulation… The Cotton Blue To Green® initiative takes in all the old, ripped, overly-acid washed, and never to be worn again jeans lying around and recycles them into sustainable, eco-friendly UltraTouch™ home insulation. Girlawhirl never thought anyone could get as much enjoyment out of her old school 501s as she did, but with a second life as a useful, useable home product, she's happy to see them off.
All she has to do to ensure her jeans live on in a new way is send her old denim to one of her favorite Fair Trade retailers, Fair Indigo.

It takes 500 pairs of jeans to insulate a Habitat for Humanity built home, and Fair Indigo believes that it can hit that goal by the end of October.
