an updated guide to pesticide residues on fruits and vegetables is available online
it helps girlawhirl know when to splurge on organics
Mar 26, 2009
With Girlawhirl keeping an eye on her grocery store spending these days, she's being choosier about when she splurges for organic produce. And while she's pretty well versed on the biggest offenders when it comes to pesticide residues, she's always up for a refresher. Luckily, her trusty wallet guide's recently been updated. . .

The Environmental Working Group's performed the testing again, ranking 47 of the most common fruits and vegetables for pesticide residue. A score of 100 means that there's a lot of residue, and more than one kind of pesticide, while a score of 1 means there's very little or none. Peaches and apples top the list, so Girlawhirl will be sure to stick to organic when she buys those, but onions, avocado, mangos, pineapple and even kiwi are towards the bottom, allowing her to feel better when she purchases the conventionally grown variety.

See the full list here or print a wallet-sized version to carry with you when you shop.
