With a little help from Sane Fitness, Girlawhirl remains both sane and fit as the holidays approach Nov 14, 2006

With the holidays getting closer, Girlawhirl finds herself squeezed for time; she's shopping, she's meeting friends after work for drinks and dinner, and she's organizing all of her gift giving, from lists to wrappings and other supplies. She's canceling her workouts and when she does make it to a spin or Pilates class, she scoots in late and rushes out the door early… What she really needs when things get this hectic is a workout that contains a bit of everything, cardio, strength and stretching. So instead of skipping the warm up and cool down of a scheduled spinning class, she's hitting the gym with her Sane Fitness QuickStart deck of cards. In about 45 minutes Girlawhirl gets what she needs to stay fit—and sane—throughout the holidays.
It all starts with 20 minutes of full blast cardio. “Twenty minutes of exercise done properly can be more effective than a whole hour of unfocused work,” says fitness expert John Cruz who worked with Beverly Caen to create the Sane Fitness system. After she's finished with her treadmill, bike or elliptical routine, Girlawhirl grabs her sturdy deck of cards and gets going with six full-body weightlifting, two abdominal and three stretching exercises, each clearly explained and pictured on their own card. Some use weights, others a bench (or step) or an exercise ball.
The cards are divided into A, B and C sections, and the workouts alternate throughout the program so she's changing things up as she progresses. If she keeps up with her Sane Fitness routine through the holidays, she'll be able to hit the New Year without her dreaded gotta-get-in-shape resolution.
