As much as she tries, Girlawhirl finds that jogging or running, whatever name she gives it, is the hardest part of her exercise program to stick to. There's always an excuse, always a reason not to put on her sneakers and hit the treadmill. She tried everything: an outside route, intervals, hills, and just going slow for as long as she possibly can, but in the long run, she can never quite string together enough weeks of consistent performance to really get into the habit… Truth be told, it's not that Girlawhirl is lazy, she just needs a little motivation. She can always work out with a Super Pal when their schedules permit, but when she's on her own, her resolve seems to weaken. And that's why she's so excited about the collaboration between Nike and Apple® and the just launched Nike + iPod system.
• It starts with Girlawhirl's iPod nano, which she already uses for musical inspiration when she jogs. What's new is the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, which includes a small receiver that attaches to the nano and a sensor that goes in her shoe. starting at $149
$29
• As far as running shoes go, Girlawhirl had to invest in a new pair designed with the Nike + iPod system in mind. There's a little spot for the sensor underneath the insole of the shoe. Various styles, including Air Max and Nike Shox, starting at $85
• After gearing up, the fun really begins. The sensor in her shoe sends info to her nano as she works out, recording Girlawhirl's pace, how far she's run, and other details. With a push on the nano's controls, she can hear all of this through her headphones.
• Girlawhirl hopped online and downloaded special Nike + iPod mixes on iTunes. The workouts are designed by the experts at Nike and feature professional athletes, so Girlawhirl gets great music and her very own coach. With specific downloads for treadmill workouts or different types of outdoor runs, she's always got something to look forward to. If she's using her own music, Girlawhirl can use her ‘power song' to get her through a rough patch in her run. All she needs to do is press a spot on the nano's control and the power song plays whenever she needs it.
• Once she's finished with a workout, Girlawhirl just connects her nano to her computer and all the data from the run is transmitted. Then she can compare this workout to any of her previous ones, track her calories burned and miles run over time and even compare her stats to her friends who also use the Nike + iPod system. She can get hooked up with runners from all over the world, and even challenge them to virtual races! • And of course Girlawhirl couldn't resist the cool tops with special waterproof pouches designed to keep her iPod nano safe but still accessible while she works out.
Also available in long sleeves $64.95
