Girlawhirl learns about the realities of plastic surgery in A Woman's Guide to the ‘Real-Reality' of Cosmetic Surgery by Christopher J. Saunders MD
Jul 24, 2007

Every now and then, when Girlawhirl gazes in the mirror, she fixates on the flaws, rather than the overall image that's reflected back at her. Perennial puffiness around her eyes or thighs that jiggle a little more than she'd like can sometimes be all she sees. And while she's still up in the air as to whether she'd have the nerve, guts, and finances to consider surgical solutions, she's got to admit it's always intriguing…

That's just the premise of A Woman's Guide to the ‘Real-Reality' of Cosmetic Surgery, by Christopher J. Saunders MD. With so many surgical makeovers featured on TV shows and starlets who reshape their faces from one magazine cover to another, the book adds a much needed dose of real life information, and counters the fast-fix mentality.

Imagine meeting a plastic surgeon and just asking away – really! Girlawhirl felt as if any question she ever had regarding plastic surgery, and plenty she hadn't thought of, was addressed. Dr. Saunders covers it all; from what to look for in a surgeon to how your nurse will be looking out for you before, during and after surgery and more. There's even a chapter written by an anesthesiologist that's full of information that would pertain to any kind of an operation.

Of course there are plenty of before and after photos, and after reading the book, Girlawhirl has a much greater understanding of what can – and can't – be done through cosmetic procedures. No operation is going to lift her inner thigh like she does when she grabs a handful of jiggle and pulls it up. Dr Saunders calls this ‘The Pull' and he's very clear on the ‘Real-Reality' of an inner-thigh situation.

But there might be something that can be done about Girlawhirl's eyelids. And a laser, another topic covered in the book, just might be able to stop that little age spot that's been forming on her face.
