Yoga and Wine add up to a great afternoon for Girlawhirl and her Super Pals

As far as Girlawhirl's concerned, there are two kinds of yoga: the super-charged, see-how-many-push-upward-dogs-one-can-do-before-collapsing yoga – which is often practiced in a studio full of teeny tiny yet absurdly muscular women – and the more restorative variety, which features lots of stretching, sometimes even a bit of humming and chanting and often, but perhaps not often enough for Girlawhirl and her Super Pals, eyes closed…

Of course, Girlawhirl knows that there really are a myriad of yoga practices, and surely there's one out there that suits her body, fitness level and degree of mental commitment. But truth be told, all she wants is to walk out of a class – any type of exercise class for that matter – feeling accomplished, relaxed and a little more calm than she felt when she walked in.

But what if she learned something in the process, and it included wine and a few nibbles? That would add up to an amazing experience – one that Girlawhirl was lucky enough to have encountered recently. It was part of Dave Romanelli and Angela Gargano's Yoga + Wine series that's touring the country hitting a different place each weekend.

The yoga portion was led by Dave Romanelli, whose class style is inspired by the jam bands that he grew up listening to – like the Grateful Dead, who performed a different set at each concert. So each ‘Yeah Dave Yoga' class has its own theme and just the right music to go along with it. Girlawhirl and her Super Pal listened to Dave – who alternated the songs with speaking about being in the moment – as they went through their downward dogs, upward dogs, planks, warriors and pigeons. Afterward, Angela Gargano reinforced the of-the-moment attitude with a tasting of Sicilian wines and antipasti. And here's the thing: Girlawhirl and her Super Pal discovered that wow (!) the wine and the food really did taste better when they were right there in the moment and paid attention.
