Girlawhirl looks at her time spent practicing yoga as a way to re-center herself and rejuvenate her sometimes drained spirit in an oh-so-crazy world. When she's focusing on inner peace, she finds that same peace leaks out into the world around her. She's better able to cope with the stresses of day to day life when she feels grounded. Instead of losing her cool and taking something out on someone else, she just takes it all in stride. Always happy to share that peaceful feeling, Girlawhirl knew she had to be part of a yoga practice that not only honors the victims of the September 11thterrorist attacks, but also encourages peace around the world...
Rain or shine people will join Yoga for Peace on September 8th in completing 108 sun salutations in cities around the world to create an “Action of Peace” and honor the lives taken, and sacrifices made, on September 11th, 2001. From Bali to Boulder, Toronto to Tokyo and New York to Honolulu, 21 cities will host Yoga for Peace Yoga Mala events.
A Yoga Mala is traditionally practiced in India to celebrate the arrival of spring with 108 sun salutations, one for each bead on the meditation prayer beads called “the mala.” To add to the strength of the practice, Girlawhirl, and participants everywhere, will arrange themselves in the circular form of the mandala, or sacred diagram of the cosmos. The radial design is meant to aid meditation. She's ready to bring her mat, towels, water and whatever else she needs to get her through the four hour practice filled with tranquil mediation and hopes of peace.

But a wish of peace isn't all that Girlawhirl's participation ensures, because her registration fees also help Yoga for Peace donate to charities that promote peace throughout the world.
Girlawhirl already registered for Yoga for Peace online. Yoga for Peace accepts registration at the event, but strongly recommends registering in advance. To see all the locations click here.
