Girlawhirl's bugged. Her phone is ringing off the hook these days and unfortunately, it's not because she's the most popular girl on the block. Somehow, some way, she's found herself on the receiving end of far too many marketing and sales calls…
And she can't figure it out. She was sure her home number was on the National Do Not Call list. But since she's no longer picking up her second extension at home – the one without caller ID – she knew she had to double check.
It was easy, she just went to the do not call website where she could input her number to see whether or not her number was already listed. Thirty-nine million numbers are, but as it turned out, hers wasn't among them. She registered hers, and entered her email address. In a flash there was an email in her inbox that she had to click on to complete the registration.
Some of her Super Pals have registered their cell phone numbers as well, and the site will accept them, but truth be told, the government says that's unnecessary.
Even though Girlawhirl got an email a while ago warning that she'd soon be getting unsolicited calls on her cell phone, those numbers are not being released to marketers. And since telemarketers can't use automated dialers to call mobile numbers – that's against the law – they're only able to call customers on cell phones with the customer's permission.
Now that Girlawhirl made sure that her home phone was finally (!) registered, she's looking forward to a few weeks from now when she won't be constantly interrupted on the weekends and she'll no longer have multiple, long, messages on her voicemail when she gets home at night.
